Done In A Day

Done In A Day

In 2017, the Junior League of Detroit launched their Done-in-A-Day Projects (DIAD). DIAD Projects are intensive projects that are completed in a single day, with 8-10 volunteers to have an immediate impact on our communities.

The Junior League of Detroit works closely with its partners to identify projects that would meet its goal of making a difference.

Our first DIAD Project was working with the Northeast Guidance Center to winterize their urban garden. The urban garden project is part of the Motor City Clubhouse work-ordered day curriculum. Members not only water and weed the garden, but help with menu planning, gathering produce and food preparation. Produce is often sent home with the members. The DIAD Project consisted of picking the last of the produce, pulling and composting plants, trimming fruit trees, rolling up plastic from the garden, and planting bulbs and garlic.

Our second and third DIAD Projects were with a new partner Brilliant Detroit. Brilliant Detroit is dedicated to building kid success families and neighborhoods where families with 0-8-year-olds have what they need to be school ready, healthy and stable. Brilliant Detroit does this by providing proven programming and support year-round out of Brilliant Detroit homes in high-need neighborhoods. The DIAD Projects involved painting and organizing the early childhood development rooms and organizing clothing donations.

Upcoming DIAD Projects have been scheduled with Cass Community Social Services and The Empowerment Plan.

As always, all ideas are welcomed and encouraged for innovative community DIAD Projects!
