State Public Affairs Committee of the Michigan State Council of Junior Leagues (SPAC)
Chair: Kayla Roney Smith, Junior League of Detroit
Vice Chair: Elizabeth Battiste, Junior League of Lansing
Secretary: Kim Bancroft, Junior League of Kalamazoo
The State Public Affairs Committee (SPAC) of the Michigan State Council of Junior Leagues is dedicated to educating members and the general public on important issues and to advocating for change on behalf of those who do not have a voice.
SPAC’s two current focus areas are:
1) issues impacting children and youth in foster care and
2) issues related to human trafficking.
The Public Affairs Committee is seeking input regarding the selection of a new focus area. Send your suggestions to PublicAffairs@JLDetroit.org.
For the 2017-2018 year, the Junior League of Detroit is represented on SPAC by Kristen Uitenham, Committee Chairperson, and Committee Members Taylor Browne, Rochelle Morton, Nitya Reddy, and Anne Marie Scanio.
In addition to meeting monthly as a committee with hired lobbyist Noah Smith of Capitol Services, Inc. and meeting separately with state legislators and other advocates, SPAC hosts an annual Day at the Capitol event. All JLD members are encouraged to attend the next Day at the Capitol, which is scheduled for Tuesday, March 20th, 2018 at the Michigan State Capitol in Lansing.
For more information, please contact JLD Public Affairs Chairperson Kristen Uitenham at PublicAffairs@jldetroit.org
